Balancing Baby Jesus

So, last night I had this pretty weird dream that my friend Julie(England) had Baby Jesus (‘had’ as in ‘had custody of’, not ‘had’ as in ‘gave birth to’).  I walked up to her and she was holding him on the back of her hand – that’s right, the back of her hand.  She was sort of cradling him in that curve that happens when you point your fingers so hard they hyper-extend.

She handed him to me and I held him in my hands – the front, this time, like a normal person – and I was surprised to see he was sort of…dough-y.  Like one of those Stretch Armstrong dolls.  And, then, I watched him grow…he got bigger, right there, in my hands.

I woke up before he was a toddler or anything, but I remember feeling nervous that I would drop him.  You drop Baby Jesus, and, well, that’s it.  You’ve pretty much messed everything up.

I told my work friends this story over lunch today, and we all laughed hysterically, but to be honest, it got me to thinking: Mary must have been pretty freaked out, holding the Saviour of the World in her hands.  Tiny, floppy, fragile.

You drop Baby Jesus and, well, that’s pretty much it.
