Sew, a needle pulling thread…

Sew So, if you know me at all, you know I am an ideas person. Back in England, my friend Ben and I used to talk about how good we are at coming up with big, exciting ideas. The setback is that we’re not so good at the follow-through. Luckily, he’s married to Helen, who is the Queen of Details. My husband, well, he’s better than I am at details, but he’s probably more like a Duke of Details. I’m the Jester.

Anyhoo, the point of all this is that I’m about to brag on myself. I think I’m getting better at follow-through. There are a long list of things I’ve always wanted to learn to do and, for some reason, never got around to doing. Back in the fall, I enlisted my good friend Kate to teach me jewelry-making. I now have an etsy shop where I’m selling my wares. How’s that for follow-through?

And now, I’ve undertaken yet another long-time dream: sewing. I signed up for a sewing class with a friend, and tonight marks our second class. We’re creating a highly questionable shirt, but the point is that we’ll eventually be able to make whatever we want. Including little shoes like these, made by Marcia Spencer of Small Beans, here in Raleigh. (No Mom, I am not pregnant. Yet.)

One small problem: I didn’t do my sewing class homework, which was to cut out my interfacing. But don’t worry, this happened to me all the time in Mme. Peregoy’s French class, and, I’m going to do tonight what I did back then: show up 5 minutes early and do it really fast. I have a Master’s degree, people. Trust me.
