your life is beautiful

I’m Obsessed with ___.

Normally, I don’t turn on my Nat King Cole Christmas cd till the day after Thanksgiving.

But, as I’m expecting a baby sometime in early December, I’m feeling like I need to get a head start on the holidays this year.  As I was thinking about my current obsessions this week, so many Christmas-y things were popping up…but I don’t want to rush the time by, so I’ve done my best to stick to more Autumnal and/or Thanksgiving and Halloween-y things.  Mostly.

1. Owls.  Any little thing that looks like an owl.  Including (but not limited to) these cute little ornaments from Rose Cottage, and this lovely tree owl necklace from Coco’s Greenhouse (a fellow North Carolinian!).

2. Pancakes.  And pancake syrup. My longest-time friend Lauren is here visiting me – we met at All-County Band when we were 13 – and she brought me a bottle of Mrs. Butterworth’s.  It’s the simple things, really, that make me happy.

3. These super-lovely prints from The Wheatfield. (Hello again, NC!  You are certainly the most talented state.)  I want them all in my house.

4. Chick-fil-a.  You know how they say “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone”?  Yeah.  I had access to a Chick-fil-a sandwich combo with waffle fries, a diet lemonade, and Buffalo Sauce any time I wanted. Little did I know then how, when I moved to the UK, it would haunt me in my sleeping and waking hours.

Simon and I found a Chick-fil-a straw wrapper in my handbag a few weeks ago and I got a little teary-eyed. (Okay, I’m pregnant, I get teary-eyed at most things.)

We also had a discussion about how much we’d pay for a Chick-fil-a combo – I said £30.  I’m not even joking.

PS – Have you seen this Tim Dawkins video about Chick-fil-a?  It makes me laugh.

5. This necklace by SSD Jewelry.  What is it about words stamped in metal that makes me so happy?

6. Punkins.  Pumpkin everything.  Pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pancakes…which brings me to these:

7. Pumpkin Spice kisses.  Now, I’m not officially obsessed with these, seeing as how I haven’t actually tasted them.  It’ll be a while before they make their way over to the little island, I assure you.  But just the thought of them makes me happy.  God bless America.  (Now, who wants to send me a bag?  And some candy corn?)

8.  Joshua Radin and Patty Griffin.  Like Fall for the ears.  Aural Autumn.  So dreamy.

9.  I call it oatmeal.  English people call it porridge.  Either way, sprinkle some cinnamon and brown sugar on it and Bob’s your uncle.

10.  Okay, I tried.  But just one little Christmas-y thing won’t hurt.  And look at this sweet stocking!  It matches my decor.  I love it.

Happy Beginning of the Holiday Season!

We can get pumpkin in our lattes, and pumpkins for our front porches, and whole pumpkins for baking–though I have no idea where to begin to bake w/ a whole pumpkin. We can not, however get pumpkin in a can yet. Which is disappointing. I’m ready to make more pumpkin things. I had one can left over from last winter and I made cookies at the first hint of cooler weather. So for now I’m embracing everything apple and pear.

Cool blog. Found you through ssdjewelry. She gave you a shout out on facebook. Lucky you, living across the pond! Lucky me, sipping on a Chickfila sweet tea after having a pumpkin scone chased by a DD pumpkin coffee earlier this morning. Cheers!
