Where do I even start with this?
When I was home in North Carolina this Summer, I got the chance to shoot a couple of family sessions in Raleigh and Winston-Salem. Ashley was one of the first people who contacted me when she heard I was going to be in America.
She’s a friend of my little sister’s from college, and they used to make weird music videos to OK Go songs. I won’t lie. I always wanted to have silly/fun friends like them.
Anyway, now Ashley is grown up and married and is an art teacher and has a beautiful little girl named Piper. She’s a photographer, too, and there’s nothing so honouring as being trusted by another photographer to take their picture.
We dodged the rain for this early morning shoot – literally, I showed up at Ashley and Corey’s house, it was pouring, and we got in the car and drove half-and-hour away to where the local news station said it wasn’t raining to get these photos.
Hashtag worth it.
Also – PS – you’ll notice that 18-month-old Piper wasn’t having it in some of the later shots, and, can I just say: parents always get kind of stressed when their kid is losing it during their family shoot.
But for me…it just adds to the beauty of it. This season of life is tiring and crazy and your kid gets mad over the dumbest things like how you brought the wrong rainboots or dropped her fruit snacks on the ground.
The tears are just part of the story. They’re just part of your gorgeous life, and you’ll want to remember them, too.
