Jess + John | A Destination Anniversary Session in Oxford, UK

Jess emailed me last Summer to tell me all about her upcoming trip to the UK from her home in Missouri.

Her husband, John, studied in Oxford years ago, when he and Jess were dating and she was wearing his class ring (I mean, adorable), and had always told her he wanted to take her back one day. They couldn’t quite swing it for their honeymoon, so they saved and saved, and finally made it back last Fall to celebrate their two-year wedding anniversary and their NINE-year dating anniversary.

To add to the celebrations, Jess and John asked me to come to Oxford and shoot an anniversary session for them around the University. We got coffee first in the cutest little bike shop/cafe, The Handle Bar, and then spent the afternoon walking around the university campus while John showed Jess around and I captured them together.

These two have pretty much grown up together, and Jess told me that sometimes marriage has felt harder than she’d imagined it would. I loved her honesty – it’s true though, isn’t it? Nobody said it was going to be easy, but sometimes the best things are the hardest. And as we walked around and these two laughed hysterically, held hands, and I made them snuggle up together (I’m kind of bossy on these sessions), I could tell they know each other, respect each other, and have what it takes. They’re gonna make it. You heard it here first.
