We’re moving into our new house today.
Well, technically, Simon is moving us into our new house and I’m stuck at work, yet to accrue enough vacation days to justify taking a day off for moving, in addition to the five days I’ll have to take to go to England for Phil and Besh’s wedding in September.
Now, our house: It. is. so. cute. We’ve decided to live in Smithfield, cause, hello, it is so much cheaper than Raleigh, and it’s got that small-town feel we love so much, while it still has lots of shopping and restaurants, and is only a 25-minute drive to Raleigh now, thanks to the brand new, state-of-the-art, Clayton bypass.
Our house is just a short walk to downtown, in an old neighborhood known to locals as South Smithfield. It’s an older house, built sometime in the first half of the 20th century. A local couple has bought it and several of the surrounding houses, completely gutted and re-wired them and turned them into goooorrrgeous little bungalows. Ours has two bedrooms, hardwood floors, and the best kitchen ever. It has a front porch just the right size for two rocking chairs, a great big oak tree out the back, and a little brick patio underneath where Simon can use his new birthday grill.
Simon’s been calling every couple of hours with moving-in updates, and I’m positively itching to leave work so I can go and push furniture around and buy groceries to stock my endless kitchen cabinet space.
Watch this space for photos: I’m planning on going crazy with the camera tonight…
