My Smitten Life

January 12, 2011

For the past 7 weeks, I’ve been on a self-imposed, unplanned maternity leave.  Not from my job – that maternity leave was well planned out and will, thanks to European labour laws, last me until August.

I had no plans to take a break from Great Smitten, but no one could have prepared me for the way my little 7 pound bundle of joy would take over every second of my time, every corner of my mind, and every part of my life.

I’m just now figuring out how to cram mundane activities like taking a shower and making a cup of tea into days filled with cuddling and feeding and diaper changing, not to mention dancing around like a mad woman, repeatedly pressing the start button on a (magical) musical caterpillar (magical because it’s sometimes the only thing that stops him from crying), and rubbing his belly when he has a tummy ache.

But I’ve missed you, folks, and I’ve missed writing about my Smitten life.

When I named this blog, Great Smitten was a little play on words – you know, cause I live in Great Britain, and I’m smitten with my British man.  (I didn’t say it was clever.)

I’m still smitten.  In fact, I’m more smitten than ever.  It’s just now my heart belongs to two British men (well, one and a half – my little nugget is just as much stars and stripes as he is tea and crumpets).

Love this post. Have been missing you in your maternity leave. Unbelievable that Adlai is already 7 weeks old. Seriously need to meet him and give him his little Christmas star (good thing Christmas comes every year, hey?!) Let me know when you’re available for a coffee…

“my little nugget is just as much stars and stripes as he is tea and crumpets” -I love that line! I have missed your blog but it sounds like you do have your hands full. Maternity leave until August! Wow, that’s awsome.

I love it, Faith! Glad that you still claim “stars and stripes” for your little one. We’re wondering what kind of accent he will have when he begins to talk : )

I really hate tummy aches because i have very low pain tolerance. I usually take fiber supplements to prevent future stomach problems. :”;’`
