I’d been thinking about going to visit Pete + Saana all year, so when she messaged me in July and said, “It’s our 10th anniversary in August – will you come take some pictures of us in the lake?”, it was the last little push I needed to book my ticket.
Saana was my first baby group friend – we met when our first babies were just a couple of months old – and we spent several days a week together for the first 4.5 years of their lives. We lived just a few streets apart, they went to preschool together, and then a few months before they were due to start school, Saana and her husband, Pete, decided to move to her native Finland, where their son wouldn’t start full-time schooling for another two years. (Don’t even get me started on how much I love the Finnish education system…not today, anyway).
Anyway, Saana’s family owns a little island in the middle of a lake near Tampere, and we went there for the day and took a motor boat out to another deserted island for their shoot. Afterward, they told me I should start marketing these anniversary sessions as marriage counselling, because it was something pretty special to have a couple of hours to just look at each other, whisper to each other and, well…I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
