How long has it been since you sat alone, and listened?
How long has it been since you heard the breeze in the trees, a river rolling over rocks nearby, the sound of your own breath?
How long has it been since you hiked to the top of a mountain and let the sun shine on your face? Since you swam in wild, cool waters and felt them touch every inch of your body? How long has it been since you stood in mountain pose, felt the earth beneath your feet…and knew you were held by something greater than yourself?
How long has it been since you heard the voice inside of you, and trusted it?
This is your invitation into all of this, and more.
Sanctuary is a 6-day retreat away from all the noise of your life. It’s a place for you to step away from social media, from school newsletters, from sermons and podcasts and any other superfluous noise, and just…listen. It’s a place for you to remember how to be quiet so that you can truly hear. A place for you to forget who you’re supposed to be, and re-learn how to trust the voice inside of you that already knows who you are.
In 2019, I created a retreat called Sanctuary, hosted in a farmhouse in England, born out of my own need for this very thing. This Autumn, the Sanctuary retreat comes to the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, and I’ve invited my good friend Melissa Reed (read more about her below) to join me in hosting this year.
From September 28 till October 3rd, we’ll escape to the historic Ellerson House, perched on a bluff overlooking the French Broad River and the small town of Hot Springs, NC.
8:30am: Grab a coffee and your Yoga mat, and head outside for Yoga accompanied by the sounds of the river flowing below.
10:30am: Join Melissa for a journaling workshop in the living room, and then head off by yourself to meditate, explore the 10 acres of fields and forests surrounding our house, or chat to a new friend on the big front porch while you watch the birds fly across the valley.
2:30pm: Cuddle up for a nap on the porch or join Faith on a hike and a dip in the cool waters of the French Broad River.
6pm: Move your body in a sunset Yoga class.
7pm: Get ready for a delicious, nourishing dinner prepared by our own private chef. Afterward, linger around the table with a glass of wine or a cup of tea while we put the world to rights, or head off to bed to read and get an early night.

Faith is a writer, Yoga teacher, and photographer. She created the Sanctuary retreat in 2019, out of what was an almost unconscious knowing that most of the answers she was looking for could be found inside. She believes the same is true for you.
Faith is from North Carolina but lives in England with her husband and two young sons, and their rescue cat, Matilda.
A lover of beauty and hospitality, Melissa Reed has devoted herself to cultivating beautiful spaces for others to experience the peace and love of God. She works as a Spiritual Director, a Yoga instructor, and curator of Atelier Grace, an online workshop for crafting a life of grace and beauty.
