Recently, I asked my beautiful friend Meri to model for me so I could practice my camera skills. She kindly obliged and, in addition to going all Tyra Banks on me, also took me to one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen – the ruins of a 17th century Jacobean mansion just on the outskirts of Bedford.
Set atop a hill with views overlooking the English countryside, this place literally took my breath away. It’s my new favorite.
We went in the evening, which is my current favorite time to shoot, but alas, dark clouds descended upon us just as we got started, so lighting was a challenge. That said, I did end up getting some nice shots. Plus, hello, Meri is a freaking supermodel, so that helped.
I’m learning, so this was a good lesson for me in lighting (turn down the ISO!) and instructing models (“say cheese” just doesn’t cut it). I’ve been reading everything I can get my hands on, but there’s nothing like just getting out there and taking a thousand photos.
That said, here are some of my faves.
